Raleigh, N.C. — As the state starts to ease some of its COVID-19 restrictions, more events are being added to the spring calendar.
The annual Raleigh St. Patrick's Day Parade and Festival were canceled due to COVID-19 concerns, but there are some other events coming up.
Here's a look at some events (some virtual and some in-person) coming up this March:
All Month: St. Baldrick's- Normally Glenwood South has a huge St. Baldrick's event happening in March where people shave their heads and raise money for children's cancer research. While there isn't an in-person event this year, you can still participate virtually by raising money and cutting your hair. And it doesn't have to be all your hair. You can cut a ponytail off or your mustache! Just go to the St. Baldrick's Glenwood South page on Facebook for more information. They will be hosting live streaming events the week of March 22.
Shamrocks & Shenanigans Virtual 4 Mile Run Walk - This St. Patrick's Day-themed virtual 4 mile run can be completed anytime before March 31.
March 5: First Friday in downtown Raleigh - Check out some local art in downtown Raleigh. Artist Robin Vuchnich's one-of-a-kind projection outside at One Exchange Plaza will be on display from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights. It runs again on March 19 and 20.
March 5-13: Raleigh Little Theatre's A Number - Human cloning is the subject of this psychological thriller presented virtually by Raleigh Little Theatre from March 5-13. Single tickets are $10 and tickets for household viewing is $18.
March 6-July 11: Golden Mummies of Egypt at NCMA - See eight golden mummies during this exhibit at the North Carolina Museum of Art through July 11. The museum is open but at limited capacity. Tickets must be reserved for a specific time and masks are required.
March 8-13: Reptile and Amphibian Days at North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh - Enjoy six days of virtual fun with programs about this year's featured creature - salamanders.
March 11: Big Night In for the Arts -WRAL has teamed up with arts councils from Chatham, Durham, Orange and Wake Counties for this fundraiser to help benefit the arts community devastated by the coronavirus pandemic. Big Night In for the Arts will be live on WRAL on March 11 at 7 p.m. The special is taking place about a year after the first stay-at-home orders were implemented and the lineup includes singer Scott McCreery, Tony-nominated actress and Raleigh native Ariana DeBose, who originated the role of The Bullet in the Broadway hit "Hamilton," Chapel Hill-based folk music duo Mandolin Orange, three-time Grammy Award winner Branford Marsalis of Durham, and Chatham County-based actor and playwright Mike Wiley.
March 13: Shamrock Search Scavenger Hunt - This competitive scavenger hunt is happening in Raleigh, Cary and Knightdale on March 13 from 2 to 5 p.m. The hunt is happening at the same time in each city and will involve finding all the hidden green shamrocks in your city. The shamrocks will be on storefront windows so you don't have to go inside. The teams will need to find all secret words and form them into a sentence and turn in the correct answer. The top three finishers will win a basket full of goodies from local businesses. Admission is $15 per team.
March 13: Norse Brewing's St. Patricks Day Celebration (Family Friendly) - Norse Brewing in Wake Forest is celebrating St. Patrick's Day with a family friendly event on March 13 from noon to 3 p.m. There will be live music. Tables can be booked in advance. There will be seating indoors and outdoors. All COVID-19 guidelines will be followed.
March 13 and 17: St. Patrick's Day at Hibernian in downtown Raleigh - The Hibernian is hosting its annual St. Patrick's Day celebration on March 13 and 17. The events include four 5-hour sessions to help the venue maintain reduced capacity. There will be morning and evening sessions that include live music, giveaways and food and drink specials. Tables of up to four, six and eight people are available for reservation.
March 14: Pi Day Beer and Pie Pairing - Bond Brothers beer is teaming up with Slice Pie Company for a beer and pie pairing in time for Pi Day. Orders should be placed in advanced and pairings can be picked up on March 14 between noon and 8 p.m. A limited number of slices will be available for sale the day of. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 the day of.
March 1-14: Pi Day scavenger hunt at Pullen Park - Pullen Park will mark Pi Day with an educational scavenger hunt through March 14. The hunt is self-guided and best for children 8 to 13 years old. It helps teach you about Pi, circumference and other math topics. Get your Pi Day packet at the ticket office and when you complete it you win a prize at the end.
March 15-21: Shamrocks and Shenanigans at Pullen Park - This scavenger hunt can be done anytime between March 15 and 21. Dress up as a leprechaun (Team Shamrock) or a pirate (Team Shenanigans) and complete the hunt to win a gold prize. You can get your packet from the ticket office.
